MacGradeBook is a grade book program for teachers. It keeps track of students, assignments, marks and it generates report cards, class lists, etc.
The user manual is in Word 3.x format so it should be possible to open it from most word processors. Most of the program, enough to use it, can be figured out by trial and error and by examining the sample class "English 20", however you will need to look at the manual to understand some of the more subtle points and to use some of the features. If you do not have a word processor that can read the manual a printed copy is available - just add $10 to the registration fee and indicate clearly that you would like a copy of the manual.
MacGradeBook is being distributed as shareware and is not free. If you continue to use it beyond the 30 day trial period you are expected to register your copy. When you register you will be sent a receipt which will include a registration code that you can enter into MacGradeBook from the registration dialog that you see when the program starts. After you register your program this opening dialog to be skipped. When you register you will also recieve a Tech-Support phone number that you can call should you have any trouble with MacGradeBook. To register send $25 (U.S.) or $30 (Can. - Ontario residents add $2.40 PST) to:
Lawrence Goerzen
Northern Light
26 Gair Dr.
Etobicoke, Ontario
CANADA
M8W 4P4
When you register please include your name, address, phone number and any comments you might have about the program. Be sure to include the name and version of the program (this program is "MacGradeBook 1.8.1") so that I know which registration code to send you.
Please feel free to share this program with as many people as you like as long as you include all files that came with it unchanged in any way -- the simplest way to do this is to distribute it in its original compressed format. You are NOT allowed to charge anything for this program. If you want to include MacGradeBook in a shareware collection being distributed for a fee, write me a note asking for authorization.
If you know of any bulletin boards with older versions of MacGradeBook (or no version
at all) I would appreciate it if you could upload this version to them -- it can take
forever for the various bulletin boards to get updated.
Changes from 1.3
1. The term "Item" has been changed to "Assignment".
2. Assignments & category marks can now be included in class lists.
3. Some bug fixes.
Changes from 1.4.1
1. The assignment marks printed in a student list no longer have a "%" on the end.
2. "Cut Student" works properly. If you have used this command with version 1.4.1 it
may have damaged marks for other students -- you should check the entire class.
Changes from 1.5
1. Categories can be defined as "Extra Credit".
2. Custom grades (A, B+, etc.) are calculated correctly for assignments when printing
student lists.
3. The graphs of class results look a bit different.
4. You can now drag objects to the bottom of the page in the report window.
Changes from 1.6
1. The bug where a duplicate category is created when an assignment belonging to the
left most category, is cut or copied and then pasted, has been fixed. When any file
containing these duplicate categories is loaded into version 1.7 (or later) the
duplicates are fixed so that it is now possible to delete them (the duplicates were
not created properly and it was very difficult to delete them).
Changes from 1.7
1. When printing a report on a Stylewriter the word "Average" was replaced with
"Temporary Items". This has been fixed.
2. The program now prints student comments that are longer than 255 characters
